Claire Brereton
Primary School Tutor
About
My name is Claire and I studied Neurobiology at University and was a Research Psychologist, working at Great Ormond Street Hospital before obtaining my teaching qualification at Goldsmith’s College, University of London. Both my background in psychology and primary teaching has given me a thorough understanding of how children learn best and why.
I am a highly experienced teacher, tutor and home school educator with over 20 years experience in the classroom, working in a number of highly successful London Primary Schools. I am currently teaching in the classroom alongside tutoring and so am up to date with the National Curriculum, teaching and training initiatives. I have taught across all age ranges from age 3-11 years and have amassed a wealth of experience working with SEND students.
My specialisms are English and Science but teach all subjects in the Primary National Curriculum. I am fully trained in teaching phonics, reading and writing to Early Years and KS1 as well as being an experienced KS2 external SAT’s marker for spelling, punctuation and grammar. I also lead an after-school Science club in several schools which teaches practical Science in a stimulating and engaging way. My teaching philosophy is grounded in nurturing natural curiosity and fostering a life-long love of learning. My teaching style is fun, interactive and inclusive; it is a privilege to be a part of a child’s learning journey and to see them grow in confidence.
